Using laparoscopy for diagnosis and/or treatment, rather than resorting to an exploratory laparotomy as a first line treatment, offers your patients and clients significan benefits. Laparoscopy is usually a less stressful option in practice with more rapid recovery. In this workshop you will learn about the technical and practical aspects of laparoscopic procedure. Under the guidance of specialists in veterinary surgery you'll build confidence with the equipment used in these procedures. Increasing numbers of veterinarians are now offering minimally invasive surgical options, perhaps it's time for your clinic as well. Classes are limited with a high tutor to attendee ratio maximizing your learning opportunities.

Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation- Jul 27th - 31st 2020

Join Dr Janet Van Dyke and her world leading team in Brisbane on July 27th - 31st and build on a fundamental understanding of canine anatomy, physiology and biomechanics so you can diagnose and treat lame, stiff or sore patients better. Common orthopedic and neurological disorders of the canine patient are covered including both conservative and surgical treatment options. Canine rehabilitation modalities are introduced. Build relevant structures on canine skeletons using clay, and get hands-on experience palpating live dogs. Prerequisites: This 5-day course is open to all licensed veterinarians and physiotherapists as well as any veterinary nurses who have attended the Canine Sports Medicine course.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

You will revise :

  • Canine musculoskeletal anatomy in depth
  • Comparative (human and canine) anatomy and biomechanics
  • Canine neuro/musculoskeletal structures including bones, muscles, nerves, ligaments, tendons and cartilage; also, the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of each

You will develop skills in :

  • Diagnosing muscoloskeletal conditions
  • The fundamental physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics of joint, muscle and muscle action as they relate to common canine injuries
  • The use of different modalities of diagnoses
  • Traditional physical therapy terminology and techniques including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and aquatic therapy; also, physical modalities utilizing LASER, ultrasound, thermal agents and electrotherapy
  • The use of different physical therapeutic modalities of treatment
  • Integrative therapies including acupuncture, chiropractic
  • Diagnosis, treatment planning, and outcome measurement in canine rehabilitation
